Common questions

A typical musculoskeletal MRI takes 20–40 minutes depending on the body part and the sequences required. You will need to remain still inside the scanner during the examination.
Most modern orthopaedic implants are MRI-compatible, but you must inform the radiology team about any implants or devices before the scan. Certain older implants and cardiac devices may be contraindications.
Weight-bearing X-rays show how the joint behaves under load, revealing alignment abnormalities and joint-space narrowing that may not be apparent on non-weight-bearing films. This information is essential for treatment planning.
CT provides excellent bony detail and is ideal for fracture assessment and surgical planning. MRI excels at soft-tissue evaluation—ligaments, tendons, cartilage, and discs—without radiation. The two modalities are complementary.
