Why Accurate Diagnosis Matters

An orthopaedic condition can only be treated effectively once it has been correctly identified. Misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis can lead to inappropriate treatment, prolonged pain, and poorer long-term outcomes. Our diagnostic approach combines a thorough clinical examination with advanced imaging and laboratory investigations to build a complete picture of each patient's condition.

Clinical Examination

Every diagnostic workup begins with a detailed history and hands-on clinical examination. Our surgeons use validated provocation tests, range-of-motion assessments, and neurological screening to narrow the differential diagnosis before ordering any investigations. This disciplined approach avoids unnecessary tests and ensures that imaging is targeted and informative.

Imaging Services

Our on-site imaging suite offers the full range of modalities required for musculoskeletal diagnosis:

  • Digital X-ray — Available with weight-bearing and stress views for accurate assessment of alignment, fractures, and arthritis severity.
  • MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) — High-field MRI provides detailed soft-tissue contrast for evaluating ligaments, menisci, cartilage, tendons, and spinal discs without radiation exposure.
  • CT Scan with 3-D Reconstruction — Multi-slice CT is used for complex fracture mapping, pre-operative planning for joint replacement, and assessment of bony anatomy in challenging cases.
  • Ultrasound — Real-time musculoskeletal ultrasound is used for dynamic evaluation of tendons and soft tissues and for guiding diagnostic and therapeutic injections.
  • DEXA Scan — Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry measures bone mineral density and is the gold standard for diagnosing osteoporosis.

Laboratory Investigations

Blood tests play a supporting role in orthopaedic diagnosis. We routinely order inflammatory markers (ESR, CRP), rheumatoid factor, uric acid levels, vitamin-D and calcium panels, and infection markers when indicated. Synovial fluid analysis is performed when joint infection or crystal arthropathy is suspected. Results are typically available within 24 hours.

Electrodiagnostic Studies

Nerve conduction studies (NCS) and electromyography (EMG) are used to evaluate peripheral nerve function in conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, and radiculopathy. These studies help us determine the severity of nerve involvement and guide treatment decisions—conservative management versus surgical decompression.

We understand that waiting for results adds to patient anxiety. Our imaging and laboratory services are structured to deliver same-day reports for most investigations, allowing us to discuss findings and formulate a treatment plan during a single visit whenever possible.
